Sponsor Post: Disney Side Home Celebration

I received free products in order to host the Disney Side@Home Celebration. The opinions expressed here are my own.

Xavier and I celebrating our Disney Side!

This past weekend we had a fun Disney Side Home Celebration party at our house. I was chosen as a mom host for the Disney Side Home Celebration. Disney wanted to come up with fun ways for families to celebrate their knowledge and love of Disney by joining families in a celebration. We watched a DVD about Disney vacations that was provided with the kit, played bingo and Disney trivia and had some very yummy snacks. Then, all the kids had fun playing with all the Disney toys and books while the adults enjoyed reminiscing about what Disney meant in their childhood.  All in all it was definitely a fun day of childhood Disney fun for all! I hope you all enjoy the pictures! Be sure to check out Disney Side@Home Celebration for all the products you need to host your own Disney party!

Special thanks goes out to my good friend Diana for taking these amazing pictures! Enjoy!

The Stomach Bug

WARNING DO NOT EAT WHILE READING THIS OR READ THIS IF YOU ARE ALREADY FEELING QUEASY!

My poor sick little man!

We had a fun weekend of literally one day of an up and one day of a down. Saturday I hosted our Disney Side Party (read all about that tomorrow) and then Sunday Xavier came down with what we now know as a stomach bug. UGH!
The night of the party which was Saturday night he was very clingy and warm and didn't seem to feel well. We just figured he "partied too hard". However, we were very, very wrong. Nick was working a late shift and came in at around 2am to a smell that he had never smelt before. He looked all around the house wondering which pet (dog and two cats) had pooped, puked or brought a dead carcass into the house and finally ended up realizing that smell was coming from our son. I then woke up two hours later to Xavier puking. Which then we both woke up to another blowout all over the crib, following by one on the couch, another in the crib, two on the go but caught just in time only needed a wardrobe change we have definitely been getting our exercise.
You see when an adult gets a stomach bug they know when to go to the bathroom and how long to sit there and that they should rest all day. When a toddler has a stomach bug you have no idea when you will be stricken down with diarrhea overload or puking, plus he insists on playing and being his normal joyful self running around the house. Needless to say our house is covered in sheets. I am doing load after load of laundry. They are all blending together and I am having to dig down to the bottom of my pajama drawer to find old enough clothes to wear that I do not care what happens to them.
The good thing is so far I have survived the bug, Nick was the first, Xavier was the second and hopefully it will be gone and defeated by Renee the Stomach Bug Repeller!

Don't forget we have two great giveaways going on right now. The Tonguespank Spice Giveaway ends on Wednesday morning and the Mother's Therapy Organics Hand Sanitizer Value Pack giveaway is still going on so be sure to enter them both.

Art 101

Since Xavier is almost two we got him art supplies for the first time last Christmas. He loves the crayons and we even take out the dry erase markers. However, the other day we finally branched into my very favorite activity. Something I have been waiting patiently to do with him. We made art together.

I took out a big canvas and gave him his finger paints and paint brushes and let him use his hands and brushes and for over an hour he had a blast. I will probably let him keep painting on the canvas over and over as I think that will be neat to see what he makes of it and perhaps one day he will say "mom, I want another canvas".

Xavier's masterpiece so far!

Hair Cut Fun

We have finally perfected the haircut problem with Xavier. After a few months of friends and I cutting his hair. We took him to a Kwik Kuts to get his hair cut. He did great. He loved the lollipop which helped to keep him still.

The before hair cut shot!

Reading a magazine while waiting his turn.

He did so good!
A tip for parents be careful of the lollipop, Xavier was sucking so hard on it that the stick broke in his mouth with a little candy on it and if he swallowed it he would have choked. We knew this was a possibility so we watched him very closely and the second the stick dropped we opened his mouth to get whatever was left. Thus, upsetting him and making him cry and finishing the hair cutting process. However, he sat still for a good ten minutes to get a cute cut. I hope it brightens your Friday and that you all have a great weekend!

Keeping an eye on his lollipop!

The finished hair cut!

Don't forget we have two giveaways going on right now the Tongue Spank Spices Giveaway and the Mother's Therapy Organics Hand Sanitizer Value Pack Giveaway! Be sure to enter them while you still can!

DIY Home Organization Center

I am new to the crafting world. However, as a stay at home mom you will find that crafting can help you out a lot. Imagine if you had the talent to decorate your home on your own and make it more functional by doing it on a cheap budget and exactly what you are looking for. As I am not always able to get out a lot and visit a ton of different stores nor do I have a ton of funds to buy things. I am getting a little better at crafting a few things here and there.

Before our home organization center make over.

Another before shot of our home organization center makeover.
Since things in our house are changing and moving quickly I decided we really needed a home organization center. We only had a small yearly calendar I would try to write things on. I decided to make a giant dry erase monthly calendar, keep the yearly calendar and also have a weekly clipboard sheet divided by day and by each person in the house, since we all do different things. I then added a basket to keep supplies such as pens, markers, bills, and receipts in. I also hung a little clothesline up to put up invitations to things and extracurricular calendars for the month on. I thought that was fun to make a clothesline. Here's some pictures and tips. I did not buy anything. I used an old big frame for a picture that we were not using along with some construction paper, scissors, and scotch tape. You can use glue but I get messy with glue and prefer tape. The markers and basket I had in another part of the house and even the clothesline is just yarn and some clothes pins. So you can go as cheap or expensive on you want for this depending on your taste and budget.
To make the dry erase monthly calendar you just cut out squares the same size in five rows of seven with some room up top to write month, year and days of the week. It helps to arrange them all first so you know what colors you want where.

I then taped them together being sure to keep them straight by using a ruler along the side.

Finally I taped together some pretty background construction paper to put over the squares and sealed up and it was all done.

Then, you use your dry erase markers to make it how you would like.

It is important for every family to have a home organization center. You quickly see the older your children get the more schedules and things you have to work around. It's a great idea to get a head start when you can!

Plenty of room for expansion and enough calendars to keep track of everything!

I added the basket and clothesline using Hercules Hooks.

Sponsor Review and Giveaway: Mother's Therapy Organics

I wrote this post while participating in a campaign by Mother's Therapy Organics and will receive a free sample of the products to review and to thank me for my time. All views and opinions with regard to the products or company itself are my own and were not influenced, nor reviewed, by the company prior to posting.

A big thing you learn from the moment you get home from the hospital with your baby is to wash and sanitize your hands.  You are forever in poopie diapers, spit up, throw up, dirty food and if you are like me with a toddler who knows what is on his and your hands. Hand sanitizers, soaps and lotions start to make their way not just in your house but all over your house. I have extra sanitizer in every bedroom, in the kitchen, the bathrooms and of course diaper changing areas. Sanitizing your hands all the time is necessary (or washing them is). However, it can make your hands extremely dry. You end up searching the aisles of stores to try to find the one hand moisturizer that will make your hands soft again without skin actually flaking off due to excessive dryness. You may even cringe every time you use the hand sanitizer in case it accidentally gets into an extremely dry spot and stings.
Say "Goodbye" to what I am describing, because there is a new product line out and it is taking parents by storm. Mother's Therapy Organics safely sanitizes yours and your children's hands naturally with no harsh chemicals. In fact Mother's Therapy Organics pledges "to use safe, natural and organic ingredients in all their children's cleansing products; our dedication to the health and well-being of children is paramount". Mother's Therapy Organics chose natural alcohol as the active ingredient in their hand sanitizers. It still has the 99.9% germ-kill ratio but is quick to dry and contrary to popular belief, an alcohol-based hand sanitizer can leave skin softer than before you use it. As the natural alcohol evaporates, it leaves behind skin-softening aloe based lotion. Leaving your hands with a light citrus scent that is non-greasy and can be used as often as needed without worrying about damaging your sensitive skin.
I love that Mother's Therapy Organics is a woman-owned company that happily donates to non-profit organizations and are always considering new programs to donate to. Their website is very well laid out and they have a nice variety of hand sanitizer sizes and lotions. I was able to try out their Mother's Therapy Organics Organic Germ Fight'n Hand Lotion. I love this lotion. It is without a doubt the softest, gentlest, and most non-greasy formula I have ever tried. It has a very light cucumber scent. A little goes a very long way and it is so silky smooth and makes my hands the same way. In fact I love it so much I started using it as a body lotion.
To see how well this works with sensitive skin I tried it on my guys. I am always careful with Xavier, as I have sensitive skin, Nick has even worse sensitive skin and so far Xavier is just a slight mix of us both. However, both of my men need special laundry detergent, lotions and soaps or they get rashes. I tried this on both of them and neither got a single rash. Xavier was soft and never minded the smell. Nick my husband loved the non-greasy formula in it and the smell. There is nothing more he hates than when lotion sticks on his hands. The Mother's Therapy Organics Organic Germ Fight'n Hand Lotion is now a favorite in the Arbia household, the non-greasy formula, light scent and extreme moisture won us over, hands down!
We also got to try their  Mother's Therapy Organics Organic Hand Sanitizer. We loved this hand sanitizer it is just as great as the lotion in all the same ways. No harsh smell or chemicals that burn your hands. In fact both my husband and I love the light cucumber scent. A little dab goes a long way. It does not dry out your hands at all and it drys so much faster than the regular sanitizer brands. I felt safe letting Xavier use it as well as it is all natural and I do not like to expose him to a lot of chemicals. They quickly have become our favorites and I am happy to have them in my household.
Mother's Therapy Organics sells the Organic Hand Sanitizer in a variety of sizes such as a 4 oz, 8 oz and 32 oz as well as multiple travel sizes and sets. Their prices are very reasonable starting at $7.99 for the 4 oz up to $32.99 for the 32 oz sanitizer. They also sell regular Baby Lotion as well as the Germ Fight'n Hand Lotion that I tried. If you are interested in trying Mother's Therapy Organics for yourself you can buy it on their website and you can even become an ambassador if you adore them as much as I do!

Farewell Baby Melissa

If you have been keeping up with my Baby Melissa posts you may realize that there have not been very many. (If not Read: Introducing Baby Melissa, Week One With Baby Melissa) My writing in general has suffered and things have not been all that wonderful for us. Not because of this adorable bundle of joy and light, but because I do not say "No" when I need to, because there is just too much in this life I want to do and want to help with, yet have to sometimes realize that I do not have the time or energy to do it.
Although I still love Baby Melissa and her parents very much I have decided to no longer care for her. We have known this for a while, but I agreed to watch her until she could be taken in by a daycare. We were lucky Baby Melissa's parents got the daycare that they really wanted and got it a month earlier then expected. It was meant to be. I was proud to have Baby Melissa for two months of her precious life.
However, as a mother I have to think of myself and my health and my family first and foremost. Unfortunately, the extra strain of the different schedules of our kids and the fact that they are in two very different stages of life and with Nick starting a new job at home and my writing jobs piling in it was getting extremely stressful. Stress is not good for my seizures (Read: I Am A Face of Epilepsy). So something had to give.
After long duration of thinking and talking I came to the conclusion that watching Baby Melissa was just too much on me at this point in my life. Our schedules are much different and we need time to adjust to the changes (Read: Changes At Home) that have been going on in our life before we add any other lives, even if that life is only for a day.
Luckily after a long conversation and tears on both sides Baby Melissa's mom and I had a heart to heart explaining everything. We are still close friends/family today. I still see Baby Melissa regularly and so does Xavier.
Sometimes you will be surprised how easy things can be when you just open up your heart to others by telling them the truth, or what is bothering you or something you need them to hear. What I have learned from this experience only solidifies what I have already known but always appreciate seeing it again and again; and that is to always listen to your instincts and true friends will always be true friends.
